Standard bathtub sizes: standard dimensions of acrylic and cast iron sanitary ware

The use of new materials and technologies makes it possible to vary the sizes of bathtubs and their shapes.The presence of different-sized models makes it possible to manipulate the shower space, which makes it convenient for a person to place a washing machine, heated towel rail and other household items necessary.

Knowing the standard geometry of products, you can plan the placement of plumbing fixtures in advance, ensuring ease of access and comfort of use of the equipment. This is especially true when arranging compact bathrooms, don’t you agree?

In the article, we described in detail the most popular sizes of bathtubs of various configurations, and also provided recommendations for the selection and placement of plumbing fixtures.

Variety of shapes and sizes

In practice, to install a bathtub you need to know the following indicators:

  • plane shape of the product;
  • length;
  • width;
  • position of drain holes.

All other parameters such as depth and bowl height, the width of the sides or the angle of the walls do not affect the installation of the bathtub and ease of access to other objects in the room.

However, when analyzing the dimensions (including height), you need to make sure that the item will fit into the doorway and can be deployed for installation in the planned location.

In Soviet times, a standard apartment layout was practiced, including regulation of the area and location of bathrooms and showers. Standards have been developed establishing several standard sizes for rectangular bathtubs. Now the variety of dimensions and shapes of products has increased significantly.

Bath parameters in the diagram
The diagrams always indicate the distance from the drain hole to the floor. It must be such that the water completely goes into the system, otherwise the latter will have to be redone

Polymer production technology allows for the mass and inexpensive production of bowls of various geometries. However, the most popular are still the familiar classic rectangular bathtubs.

The second most popular type is angular symmetrical and asymmetrical bowls. With a shorter length relative to their rectangular counterparts, they can have the same volume, so they are often used in cases of significantly limited space.

Left and right asymmetrical bathtub
The index “L” (left) or “R” (right) is added to the name of the model of an asymmetrical corner bathtub. When purchasing, it is important not to confuse the orientation of the purchased copy (+)

Oval and round products, on the contrary, do not save space. They claim originality and exclusivity, which is why they are also in constant demand. Bathtubs of other shapes - diamond-shaped or non-standard - are most often found in designer options.

An interesting solution for compact bathrooms - short baths. Mini-models perform their main function without cluttering up useful centimeters of the room.

Plumbing manufacturers have identified the most popular bathtub dimensions among buyers. This was reflected in the mass production of such products, which determined their reasonable price.

Since no standard currently exists, a study was conducted of the assortment of several large stores and one popular aggregator of goods in order to identify the standard sizes of models offered for sale.

Popular types of acrylic bathtubs

Creation technology acrylic products The casting method allows you to produce objects of almost any shape.This has led to the presence on the market of many bathtubs with a wide variety of dimensions.

Classic rectangular products

The popularity of the rectangular shape of large interior items is caused by the possibility of compact installation along the walls, and their dimensions are chosen based on the functionality and purpose of the product.

There are two standard widths for classically shaped acrylic bathtubs, which are most often found in models sold: 70 and 80 cm. The most popular lengths are 150 and 170 cm.

The tables below provide example patterns that correspond to the length and width specific to that row or column.

Dimensions of rectangular acrylic bathtubs
The standard step in length is 10 cm, and in width - 5 cm. Sometimes manufacturers do not maintain these values exactly, allowing a slight deviation in size

Typical rectangular acrylic bathtubs are inexpensive. To show possible combinations of length and width, models with a cost of less than 50 thousand rubles were analyzed. But even under this condition, due to the large selection, choosing a suitable specimen is quite simple.

Corner symmetrical and asymmetrical models

Another type of bathtub geometry popular among buyers is corner. Topologically, such an object is identical to a right triangle, in which the legs are adjacent to the walls, and the hypotenuse has an uneven convex shape.

Placement of a corner bath
Unlike a rectangular product, the bevel of a corner that is not adjacent to the walls allows for a better approach to other objects in the room

The length of a corner bathtub refers to the longest side, and the width refers to the shortest side. For symmetrical objects these two parameters coincide.

Market analysis showed that in the price range of up to 50 thousand rubles, such products can be found with side sizes from 120 to 165 cm:

  • Relisan Polina (120 cm);
  • Triton Cindy (125 cm);
  • Alpen Sirius (130 cm);
  • Bas Riola (135 cm);
  • HusKarl Gerda (140 cm);
  • Bach Skat (145 cm);
  • Santek Cannes (150 cm);
  • Aquanet Polaris-2 (155 cm);
  • Triton Sabina (160 cm);
  • Aquanet Bellona (165).

In this case, the dimensional step is not necessarily a multiple of 5 cm. So, for example, the width of the bathtub Triton Medea equal to 142 cm.

For asymmetrical models, unlike rectangular analogues, calculating the free space after installation is not so simple. The irregular shape of the exterior requires careful drawing of the outline of the object on the floor plan. But finding a copy with the required length and width is not difficult due to the wide variety of products of this type.

Dimensions of asymmetrical acrylic bathtubs
The dimensions of asymmetrical acrylic bathtubs have the greatest variety among all other shapes. Finding the product you need in terms of geometry is not difficult

The analysis showed that it is easy to find specimens with a length of 140, 150, 160, 170 and 180 cm. Models with an intermediate length are less common. The width of asymmetric products starts from 75 cm.

Using the example of asymmetrical products, you can see how different the sizes of acrylic bathtubs are. There are more expensive and rarely sold models that were not included in the study, the dimensions of which are larger than those shown in the table.

Oval and round bowls

Round acrylic bowls are not compact in their placement. Buyers of such products usually do not experience problems associated with a lack of space in the room where the bath will be installed. Such models are often equipped hydromassage device and other technical solutions.

The design of such bathtubs is also often original, and their installation is not always as simple as installation of acrylic bathtub rectangular shape.To analyze existing sizes, models costing up to 200 thousand rubles were selected.

The dimensions of round objects in a plane are expressed through the diameter value:

  • Gemy G9230 K (150 cm);
  • BelBagno BB30 (155 cm);
  • Vayer Boomerang (160 cm);
  • Alpen Oblo (165 cm);
  • 1Marka AIMA Design Omega (180 cm);
  • Gemy G9090 (190 cm);
  • Gemy 9060 (210 cm).

The most popular diameter for round bathtubs is 180 cm. A total of 7 models with this parameter were found.

Another type of bowl shape is oval. Products of this geometry can fit into the room more rationally than round ones, but at the same time they also claim to be original.

The cost of the copies below does not exceed 100 thousand rubles.

Dimensions of oval acrylic bathtubs
There is no pattern in the length-to-width ratio of oval acrylic bathtubs. You can find both relatively narrow proportions and fairly wide products

The geometric parameters of oval bathtubs are not necessarily multiples of 5 cm. For example, a rather expensive and original model GemyRF1253BG has dimensions 238*88 cm.

Modern cast iron products

With the advent of alternatives in the form of steel and then polymer baths, the popularity cast iron products decreased. However, their market share is still high.

This is due to their main two advantages:

  1. Strength. To break a cast iron bowl or at least break off a piece from it, you need to make incredible efforts. The most common problem with physical impact is simply damage to the enamel.
  2. Thermal inertia. The significant heat capacity of cast iron means that the water will cool more slowly than in an acrylic bath.

It is also necessary to note two main disadvantages:

  1. Weight. Transporting and installing a cast iron bathtub will require significant effort.
  2. Lack of variety of shapes. The bowls have a rectangular (sometimes slightly rounded) geometry.

Due to the large number of plumbing manufacturers, cast iron bathtubs do not have standard sizes, but their dimensions still fit into a certain sequence. For the study, affordable specimens were selected, costing no more than 50 thousand rubles.

Dimensions of cast iron baths
There is some dependence of length on width for models made of cast iron - wide, but short bathtubs were not found on sale

The greatest variety of models can be seen in bathtubs of medium dimensions: 150*70 cm and 170*70 cm.

Also, almost everywhere you can find both small specimens with dimensions of 120*70 cm, and more massive ones with parameters of 170*80 cm.

    Helpful information. I screwed up when I was building a house: I bought a cast iron bathtub and somehow didn’t think at all about measuring both the room and the bathtub itself in advance. The seller said that the sizes are standard, it will fit into any bathroom. Well, during installation it turned out that it was too big. So, a standard bathtub will fit only in a standard apartment, and in other cases everything needs to be carefully measured.

    In any case, you need to re-measure. Standards are standards, but anything can happen. Measure seven times, cut once (in our case, buy). Still, a bathtub is a rather heavy and bulky object. It will be very unpleasant if you buy it, bring it home, take it up the stairs, and it turns out that it is not the right size for you. Therefore, there is no need to be embarrassed to go to the store with your measuring tape.
