Vertex air conditioner errors: how to find a violation using the code and correct the situation

Many errors in Vertex air conditioners are detected using the self-diagnosis function, which displays fault codes on the unit display. If there is a sudden malfunction of the split system, you should not immediately call the service center and call a repairman.

Knowing the error codes will help you quickly navigate the situation and fix the problem yourself. By understanding the problem and restoring the operation of the equipment, you can save the family budget from unnecessary expenses. After all, the service technician will present an invoice even for the call.

Error coding for Vertex brand air conditioners

The vast majority of Vertex brand air conditioners have the ability to independently diagnose breakdowns. If a malfunction occurs, the system monitors and analyzes the operation of all components and parts, detects an error and displays information about it on the display of the unit or smartphone, and reports the cause of the failure using indicator signals.

They begin to flash in a periodic series of flashes. An error code in digital or alphanumeric encryption appears on the display.

The list of errors generated by Vertex air conditioning systems is quite modest. These can be found in the instructions supplied with the relevant models. Detailed information about error codes is transmitted by manufacturers to trusted service centers.

Vertex air conditioners are assembled on the basis of equipment from well-known brands, which ones can be found out from the manufacturer or at authorized service centers, where you can contact for the missing information.

The user manuals also provide a list of the most common damages and provide tips on how to eliminate them. Each Vertex air conditioner model has its own error codes, which will be discussed below.

Split systems Triton, Cockatoo, Crab 21(9+12)

E1 – the indicator blinks once – the room temperature sensor is damaged.

The room air temperature sensor (thermistor) sets the operating mode of the compressor.

Actions: disconnect the device from the power supply, check the connection of the temperature sensor to the board. If the connection is broken, you must try to connect the sensor again and turn on the device. If there is no result, the part must be checked.

Outdoor temperature sensor
Based on the readings of the outdoor temperature sensor, the system turns off when the temperature drops below the set minimum

The main indicator of the health of a thermistor is its resistance. To measure it, use an ohmmeter or multimeter. Using the diagram in the technical documentation, the compliance of the measured resistance with room temperature is checked. If the temperature sensor is faulty, it is replaced.

E2 – the indicator flashes 2 times – the sensor for recording the pipe temperature inside the room is damaged. The steps are similar to those described above.

Indoor fan motor
Non-separable indoor unit fan motor in a plastic housing. The electric motor of the external unit is housed in a metal shell and can be disassembled for repairs

E6 – the indicator flashes 6 times – the indoor unit fan motor is damaged.

Possible reasons for the fan motor stopping.

  1. There is a flaw in the electrical wiring or the terminals of the wire connections are loose. Repair operations: eliminate defects in electrical wires or tighten connection clamps.
  2. The electric fan motor burned out. It should be dismantled and a new engine installed.

If a malfunction occurs due to wear of the bearings and electric motor, they are replaced with parts of the corresponding range.

Messages on the display about malfunctions in the operation of the indoor unit.

E1 – communication interruption.

The connection between the indoor and outdoor units has disappeared inverter system. In other air conditioners, this error is not noted, since they only have one-way communication between the units.

Possible reasons for lack of communication:

  • power supply is turned off;
  • there is no connection between the blocks (possibly the wires are mixed up);
  • terminal blocks and control board are not provided with communication;
  • fuses are blown;
  • failure in the electronics of the control board.

Sequential steps to find damage.

  1. Check the correct connection of the block wires using the terminal numbers.
  2. Check for a possible wire break.
  3. Blown fuses are identified visually or using a multimeter with the power off. If a blown fuse is detected, look for the cause of its blown in the control board. Most likely, there are faulty parts, in particular the unit responsible for communication.

E2 – the room temperature sensor is damaged. The steps to fix the problem are described above.

E3— malfunction of the temperature measurement sensor in the tube. The actions are common to all sensors.

E4 – breakdown of the external unit’s protection.

De-energize the installation. Call a qualified engineer qualified for special electrical installation work from the repair center that services Vertex equipment. According to the current PUE, the air conditioner housing must be zeroed. Connection of the air conditioning unit is permitted only to Euro sockets with grounding.

Protection against electric shock when grounded
In the absence of protective grounding, there is a high probability of electric shock if it breaks through to the air conditioner body

It is recommended to install protective devices on the power lines to the air conditioner that disconnect the system from the power supply. When selecting and installing circuit breakers, the following rules are followed: rated current circuit breaker must be higher than the current consumed by the air conditioner, and the rated current in the wiring is higher than the current in the machine.

E8- icing or overheating.

In case of icing, snow frost may appear on the condenser, evaporator, and air conditioner pipes. In this case, the system is de-energized and a specialist from the service department is called. Further use may completely damage the device.

The reason for freezing of the indoor unit may be:

  • violation of heat transfer due to the accumulation of dirt on the fan, evaporator or cleaning filter.
  • continuous operation of the SCR as a result of a breakdown of the control unit, damage to the sensor that controls icing;
  • decrease in refrigerant level due to leakage or over time - it is necessary to regularly monitor its quantity and, if necessary, replenish reserves;
  • malfunction of the thermostatic valve - only a specialist from an authorized service center can replace it.

Freezing can also occur when the capillary tube is damaged or clogged.In this case, change the defective area or blow out the capillary with a stream of air under pressure.

Icing of the external block
Ice forms on the external unit when operating in the heating regulation when the temperature of the outside air is below the set level, in the absence of a defrosting function. Freezing is possible if the temperature sensor, control board is damaged, or the heat exchanger is dirty

Superheat is determined by the difference between the boiling point of the refrigerant liquid and the temperature of the vapor after the evaporator. The overheating value for a specific model is indicated in the air conditioner documentation. Usually overheating is determined from 5-7O WITH.

Overheating indicates an excess of refrigerant in the system - freon; its amount must be reduced.

In all cases, the air conditioner must be turned off.

Next, we will analyze the indicator signals about malfunctions of the outdoor unit.

Flashes 4 times in 6 seconds – protection against low pressure in the system.

Refilling the air conditioner with freon
The type of freon, filling rate, maximum pressure are selected from the factory information on the unit nameplate or look in the model instructions

Reasons for low discharge pressure:

  • small amount of coolant;
  • broken compressor valves;
  • insufficient pressure for suction;
  • blowing air at a low temperature onto the condenser.

Troubleshooting procedure.

  1. Refill the refrigerant or repair the leak.
  2. Replace compressor valves.
  3. Adjust suction pressure.
  4. Raise to air mixture directed to the condenser.

Flashes 3 times in 5 seconds – protection against high pressure in the installation.

High discharge pressure occurs due to:

  • excess freon in the system;
  • high temperature of air entering the condenser;
  • the presence of foreign gases in the pipes that are not subject to condensation;
  • exposure to excess heat on the evaporator;
  • condenser contamination;
  • condenser fan motor damage;
  • turning the condenser fan belt.

Trouble-shooting.

  1. Remove excess refrigerant.
  2. Reduce the air temperature at the condenser.
  3. Release foreign gases from the system.
  4. Reduce thermal impact on the evaporator.
  5. Clean the condenser from dirt
  6. Troubleshooting the electric motor was described above.
  7. Install a new fan belt.

Flashes 9 times in 11 seconds – voltage phase protection.

In a three-phase air conditioner, protection is triggered against incorrect connection of phases or the disappearance of one of them. In order to prevent emergency situations, the correct connection and phase rotation are checked and, if necessary, protective devices are installed.

Flashes 7 times in 9 seconds – protection against voltage drop.

The air conditioner turns off when the voltage in the network critically deviates from the norm. Voltage drops can be caused by various reasons: heavy load, accident, poor wiring, etc. In this case, replacing the wiring or installing a voltage stabilizer can protect household appliances.

Voltage stabilizers for air conditioning
When purchasing a stabilizer for an air conditioner, it is recommended to check whether it has overvoltage protection. The best choice is an inverter stabilizer with many protective functions

Flashes 5 times in 7 seconds – external temperature sensor.

Flashes 2 times in 4 seconds – overheat sensor.

Flashes 1 time in 3 seconds – defrost sensor.

Actions to eliminate errors in these cases were discussed above.

Flashes 8 times in 10 seconds – protection against power outages.

Almost all air conditioners have a restart function. The air conditioner turns on after power supply in the same mode in which it was operating before the power outage.

Information about detected breakdowns is automatically entered into the electronic error log of the vertex air conditioner.

Fan coil units VFC

F0 – the cooling indicator is flashing – the ambient temperature sensor is open or short-circuited.

Actions: disconnect the device from the power supply, check the connection of the temperature sensor to the board. If the connection is broken, you must try to connect again and turn on the device. If there is no result, the sensor must be checked or replaced.

Cleaning the outdoor unit
Heavily contaminated outdoor air conditioner units can be cleaned by professional technicians armed with modern equipment and cleaning products.

F1 – the cooling indicator is flashing – the evaporator temperature sensor made of copper base and aluminum fins is open or short-circuited. Turn off the device, check the connection between the sensor and the control board. If the wire is disconnected, restore the connection and turn on the device for testing. If the problem persists, the sensor needs to be replaced.

C5 – the fan coil operation indicator flashes. Triggered protection due to incorrect installation of jumpers. After de-energizing the system, the correct installation of the jumpers is checked.

H6 — the operation indicator flashes. The engine is not responding. After blackout chiller-fan coil systems, it is turned on again and the error is eliminated. If there is no result, contact the service center.

Considering the lack of information on error codes for Vertex air conditioners, you should stock up on a magazine and prepare in advance for a sudden malfunction of the purchased equipment.

It is advisable to request from the manufacturer or an authorized service center a complete list of air conditioner errors, their coding and recommendations for elimination. This information will help with self-repair or will be useful for monitoring the actions of a representative of a workshop accredited by the manufacturer to carry out repair operations.
