The best bath cleaner: a rating of field-tested compounds for cleaning plumbing fixtures

One of the main conditions for a comfortable stay in the bathroom is the cleanliness of the plumbing equipment.To comply with hygiene requirements and keep your bathroom in order, all you need to do is buy a bath cleaner.

Let's consider what products are in demand in domestic stores, why they are good, and why they do not satisfy users.

TOP 10 bath cleaning products

Due to low demand, it is not profitable for manufacturers to produce special solutions for washing bathtubs and cleaning toilets or shells, so most of the formulations on the market are universal. Modern sprays and gels are suitable for ceramics, tiles, glass and chrome elements.

Cleaning product label
If the bottle label says “for cleaning plumbing fixtures,” this does not mean that the solution is suitable for acrylic or enamel - be sure to read all the fine print

Oddly enough, the best bath cleaning products are universal solutions. The TOP 10 presents samples that have received the most positive reviews and are relatively safe for health.

Place #1 – Synergetic spray

The pleasant-smelling composition took first place due to its versatility, environmental friendliness and low cost. It is biodegradable and does not contain chlorine. Hypoallergenic, therefore suitable for cleaning bathrooms used by children.In addition to plumbing fixtures, the spray can be used to treat tiles, artificial stone surfaces, plastic, and enamel.

The composition of the product does not harm biological water treatment systems, which is why Synergetic is often purchased by owners of private houses and summer cottages. It washes away stains efficiently, and works effectively even in combination with cold water.

Characteristics:

  • purpose – cleaning plumbing;
  • antibacterial - yes;
  • removes odor - yes;
  • from rust - yes;
  • from lime deposits - yes;
  • acrylic bathtub - yes;
  • There is no chlorine in the composition.

The main advantages of the detergent are its composition, which does not destroy chrome, nickel, ceramic, and plastic surfaces. The liquid smells pleasant and does not cause any unpleasant sensations when inhaling the aroma. Copes well with lime and stains, especially fresh ones.

According to reviews, the spray cannot handle old stains; it is best used for daily or frequent cleaning. You may encounter complaints about enamel being washed off from bathtubs - it is possible that the acid contained in the spray destroys low-quality enamel coatings on steel and cast iron bathtubs.

Place #2 – GraSS Gloss spray

The liquid product, applied using a sprayer, is universal and suitable for almost all surfaces that can be found in the bathroom: ceramics, tiles, plastic, glass. The manufacturer recommends using a spray to clean acrylic bathtubs and guarantees that the appearance and structure will be preserved.

The active ingredient is citric acid, which actively fights lime deposits and salt stains. A well-chosen composition also copes with rust, especially fresh marks from metal objects - chains, tubes of shaving foam.Suitable for processing acid-sensitive materials, but with one condition: the cleaning liquid is applied for half a minute and immediately washed off with water.

Characteristics:

  • purpose – cleaning plumbing;
  • antibacterial - yes;
  • removes odor - yes;
  • from rust - yes;
  • from lime deposits - yes;
  • acrylic bathtub - yes;
  • There is no chlorine in the composition.

Due to its availability and low cost, GraSS spray is one of the popular products. Buyers like that with one bottle they can tidy up the walls, floors, plumbing fixtures and mirrors in the bathroom. Fresh stains and smudges can be easily removed. Users claim that even without protection, the liquid does not corrode the skin, although the manufacturer still advises wearing rubber gloves.

The product copes worse with stubborn stains and old limescale stains. Perhaps this is the only disadvantage of the spray.

Place #3 – Comet gel

Comet brand products are known to a wide range of users thanks to successful advertising. And, as a result, sales of bath gel are booming. However, the cleaning composition really efficiently removes dirt from ceramics and tiles, as evidenced by hundreds of positive reviews. It is especially good at eliminating rusty stains that tap water leaves on the surface of the bathtub.

The name of the series “7 days of cleanliness” partially reflects reality - after cleaning the bathroom with a universal gel, the tiles and plumbing fixtures begin to shine, and the gloss remains for some time. The manufacturer warns that the product should not be used to clean products made of natural stone, metals, or for washing dishes.

Characteristics:

  • purpose – cleaning plumbing;
  • antibacterial - yes;
  • removes odor - yes;
  • from rust - yes;
  • from lime deposits - yes;
  • acrylic bathtub - yes;
  • There is no chlorine in the composition.

The product with acid was rated mostly positively by users. They note the high-quality cleaning of ceramics and tiles from rusty stains and lime. The composition is great for cleaning sinks and toilets, but caution is required when handling other items. The manufacturer advises doing a test cleaning to make sure the composition is safe.

The main complaints relate to the pungent odor, which persists for some time after cleaning. Many people notice that the gel is not thick enough, which is why it is quickly used up and is less effective.

Place #4 – Sanfor Expert gel

A highly scented, versatile, inexpensive option for bathroom and bathroom cleaners. The pronounced floral scent that spreads during use is called “Alpine Freshness”. The blue gel foams strongly when mixed with water, resulting in more water required to rinse off.

Does not contain chlorine, the main components are acids. For this reason, the manufacturer does not recommend cleaning products on which the enamel has been chipped, as well as objects made of natural stone. It is also customary to test small areas before washing enamel and acrylic bathtubs, so as not to end up with an unpleasant surprise.

Like other acidic products, Comet Gel should not be mixed with other cleaning powders, gels and sprays in order to avoid an unexpected reaction that is primarily dangerous to the health of users.

Characteristics:

  • purpose – cleaning plumbing;
  • antibacterial - yes;
  • removes odor - yes;
  • from rust - yes;
  • from lime deposits - yes;
  • acrylic bathtub - yes;
  • There is no chlorine in the composition.

Buyers do not complain about the quality of cleaning of bathrooms with light stains - fresh stains are removed without a trace. It is more difficult with an old water stone; for some it disappears after “soaking” in the gel, for others it remains. The smell does not cause irritation; many people find it pleasant and appropriate.

There are few negative aspects - a large amount of foam and the inability to clean acid-sensitive surfaces.

Place #5 – Unicum spray

An effective product for owners of acrylic bathtubs who are not satisfied with universal solutions, but prefer special formulations. The spray is suitable for regular cleaning of both bathtubs and showers, the body of which is also made of acrylic.

The product sprayed onto a polymer surface acts gently, while removing rusty stains, lime and soap stains, making the surface shine and remain clean for a long time. But it has a big drawback - a very pungent odor, which is caused either by the antifungal component included in the composition, or by other aggressive additives.

Perhaps this is why the composition needs to be applied for only 15-20 seconds, for a maximum of 1 minute, and then needs to be washed off.

Characteristics:

  • purpose – cleaning acrylic surfaces;
  • antibacterial - yes;
  • removes odor - yes;
  • from rust - yes;
  • from lime deposits - yes;
  • acrylic bathtub - yes;
  • There is no chlorine in the composition.

The cleaning quality of the spray is rated as good. It easily copes with dirt, removes even old stubborn stains on bathtubs and limescale stains on the transparent plastic of cabins. The liquid is consumed sparingly thanks to the spray nozzle, so the bottle lasts a long time.

The main disadvantage is the pungent smell, which not everyone can stand. Because of the spray, tiny droplets enter the air and interfere with breathing. The product is not recommended for use by people with sensitive skin.

Place #6 – SARMA gel

The main active ingredient is oxalic acid, which is often used to remove lime. However, the gel is universal and is designed to fight rust, dirt, germs and even mold with equal effectiveness. Simply put, it is a good disinfectant that will help keep your plumbing clean when used regularly.

There are similar varieties: Universal, Anti-Rust, Disinfection, etc. Bath cleaning products are distinguished by a standard bottle shape, while toilet gel is in containers with an easily recognizable neck. The composition of all the listed funds is practically the same. Therefore, any of them can be used to tidy up sinks, bathtubs, toilets, bidets, and stalls.

Characteristics:

  • purpose – cleaning plumbing;
  • antibacterial - yes;
  • removes odor - yes;
  • from rust - yes;
  • from lime deposits - yes;
  • acrylic bathtub - yes;
  • There is no chlorine in the composition.

Buyers positively assessed the quality of cleaning with an inexpensive product: just apply the gel, leave for a few minutes and rinse off, and the tiles, ceramics or enamel begin to sparkle clean. Many people have the opinion that the solution not only removes dirt, but also whitens surfaces.

Unfortunately, like many acidic products, Sarma does not cope with the yellowness and stubborn stains characteristic of old cast iron baths.

Place #7 – Tub&Shower spray

The hypoallergenic product from the Canadian company Eco mist is designed to remove all types of dirt in the bathroom. It removes soap stains and splashes from the walls of booths, smudges from taps, and stains on the bathtub. Cleans tiles until they shine. Fights fungus and mold: to do this, spray the product over the entire affected area and leave for 10-11 minutes, then rinse.

The composition contains only natural ingredients: pomace from sugar cane, corn, coconut, potatoes, grains, wood. When treating plumbing fixtures with a solution, there is a slight herbal odor.

Characteristics:

  • purpose – cleaning plumbing;
  • antibacterial - yes;
  • removes odor - no;
  • from rust - no;
  • from lime deposits - yes;
  • acrylic bathtub - yes;
  • There is no chlorine in the composition.

Users like the safety of using the product at home, the lack of toxicity, and the convenient dispenser.

Inconvenience is caused by the lack of effectiveness inherent in more aggressive universal means. For example, the composition does not deal well with traces of rust on enamel and ceramics, so you will have to use another product to remove them. And another negative point is the high cost that is typical for natural biodegradable cleaning solutions.

Place #8 – Ecover spray

An acidic product that many consider natural due to the absence of chlorine. The main active ingredient is citric acid. The composition also includes fragrances with the smell of citrus fruits and non-ionic surfactants. The product, made in Belgium, copes well with lime deposits, but a little worse with rust.

In addition to performing basic cleaning functions, it fights mold and muffles the smell of sewerage with a pleasant aroma.Not suitable for cleaning granite, marble, and enameled surfaces. But it cleans nickel-plated and chrome-plated taps and shower heads to a shine, and does not harm plastic.

Characteristics:

  • purpose – cleaning plumbing;
  • antibacterial - yes;
  • removes odor - yes;
  • from rust - yes;
  • from lime deposits - yes;
  • acrylic bathtub - yes;
  • There is no chlorine in the composition.

According to reviews, it is an excellent tool for daily bathroom care. Using a spray bottle is convenient and pleasant. Does not cause irritation to the skin, refreshes the air during cleaning. Suitable for sewer systems with septic tanks and SBO.

The main disadvantage is the high cost. Buyers who regularly use bathroom cleaning products prefer cheaper domestically produced analogues.

Place #9 – Sanox gel

An inexpensive universal product for those who value price-quality ratio. The composition is not concentrated, so it takes a lot to clean the bathtub. But, given the low cost of the bottle, you can use it without saving much. Removes greasy stains, natural dirt, rust and limescale stains.

Kills bacteria, but does not effectively combat unpleasant odors. Your own “aroma” is not pleasant and causes negative sensations. It is immediately noticeable that the composition is “chemical”. Like all acidic products, it is considered aggressive to enamel, so before the first cleaning it is necessary to test clean a small area.

Characteristics:

  • purpose – cleaning plumbing;
  • antibacterial - yes;
  • removes odor - no;
  • from rust - yes;
  • from lime deposits - yes;
  • acrylic bathtub - yes;
  • There is no chlorine in the composition.

The main positive quality is low cost. Thanks to it, the product is purchased not only for home use, but also for cleaning bathrooms in children's institutions, hotels, public institutions, and catering outlets.

Disadvantages: pungent odor, lack of dispenser. Contraindicated for housewives with sensitive skin and allergies to chemicals.

Location #10 – EasyWork Cleaning Liquid

Large five-liter plastic canisters have gained popularity due to their cost-effectiveness. Inside the containers there is a liquid, which for high-quality cleaning must be distributed over the surface, and this is quite difficult to do due to its fluidity. As a result, cleaning is labor-intensive and ineffective.

However, the manufacturer states that the product is intended for cleaning various types of surfaces, especially for ceramic products, sanitary ware, chrome taps - that is, for almost all items in the bathroom.

The liquid obtains its cleaning properties due to the presence of chlorine, or more precisely, hypochlorite, which contains more than 90% active chlorine. This component can fight mold and mildew, which can be useful in rooms with high humidity.

Characteristics:

  • purpose – cleaning plumbing;
  • antibacterial - yes;
  • removes odor - yes;
  • from rust - yes;
  • from lime deposits - yes;
  • acrylic bathtub - yes;
  • chlorine in the composition - yes.

The main advantage of the product is its economical cost. Technical containers are often purchased not for domestic use, but for cleaning toilets in public institutions. For home use, it is better to choose a more concentrated, but less safe and effective composition.

The main disadvantage is toxicity.Many buyers have abandoned household chemicals containing chlorine, since its negative impact on human health has long been proven, especially with constant contact. Before cleaning your home bathtub with chlorine liquid, try a more gentle composition - at least a solution of soda and laundry soap.

Tips for choosing an effective composition

Household chemicals do a good job of removing limescale, soap stains, greasy dirt, and traces of rust thanks to the aggressive substances included in the solutions. However, caustic components along with dirt can remove part of the coating, after which the bathtub will look unkempt.

Instructions for use on the bottle
In order not to spoil the surface of your plumbing equipment and protect your loved ones from the harmful effects of chemicals, when purchasing a bottle, be sure to read the instructions - they are printed on the sticker

Bathtubs differ in the material of manufacture and finishing. The most popular are steel and cast iron enameled products, as well as acrylic ones. Both require special care.

For example, enamel does not tolerate acidic agents that corrode the surface and form microcracks. Acrylic cannot be cleaned with solutions containing chlorine. Cleaning products for acrylic bathtubs are written in detail in this material.

Using a bathtub cleaning spray
It is not recommended to clean both types of products using abrasive powders. The best options for cleaning bathtubs are gels, sprays, liquid solutions

However, most cleaning products are universal, that is, suitable for cleaning products made from various materials. In fact, the products are only safe for ceramics, tiles and glass.

Typically, the manufacturer indicates on the label the types of materials that cannot be cleaned, or recommends testing the composition on a small area of the bathtub.

Some tips from users:

Most often, smudges remain if the faucet is faulty, so the cleanliness of the bathtub also depends on the condition of the plumbing equipment. Rusty and limescale stains are caused by poor-quality tap water. They can be avoided by setting filters.

Amateur testing of popular products:

Comparison of two bath and sink cleaners:

To use household chemicals less often, try to care for your bathroom regularly, without waiting for rusty or limescale stains to appear.But if cleaning is necessary, use more gentle products that do not cause destruction of acrylic or enamel. Apply them for a short time and rinse off with plenty of water.

    I have an acrylic bathtub, so there is no way to use a universal solution. You have to buy separately for the toilet (with chlorine), separately for the faucets (from plaque and stone) and the third - purely for the acrylic bathtub. I wash the floors with plain water, or I can add toilet cleaner, it works fine.

    The most expensive of them is for acrylic, Israeli Sano, in a spray, foam. But it is very convenient - I sprayed it on the sides of the bathtub, after 10-15 minutes I washed it off with a sponge and water. All the dirt is washed away, the acrylic shines like new, and I’m not tired. Expensive, but worth it.

    Sanox gel is excellent for regular washing. This is an inexpensive but quite effective remedy, I use it with pleasure. I buy more expensive ones, like Comet, if there is severe contamination. I recently had my sewer pipes replaced and my bathtub got terribly dirty. Using this gel, I wasn’t able to wash off everything; there were stains here and there, and that’s where Komet came in handy.

      I used Sanox back in my student years, when I had to save on literally everything. For its cheap price, the product coped quite well with almost all stains. Yes, it had a very pungent smell and it quickly corroded gloves of poor quality, but considering the price these are minor disadvantages.However, since 2015, the quality of Sanox has dropped significantly - the product has become too liquid and has become worse at cleaning. Only the smell remained the same. I thought maybe the batch was bad, I tried to buy it a few months later - the same thing. I'm currently using Comet. The price, of course, is completely different, but it cleans well.

    I like the "Universal Gel" from Expel. It is suitable for cleaning metal surfaces and for cleaning earthenware and even ceramic tiles. The gel does not contain any strong components, but it perfectly removes various contaminants. Not too liquid, pleasant aroma, easy to use.

  4. Galya

    I wash my bathtub with Expel sanitary ware spray. And the tiles in the bathroom too. The spray creates an invisible barrier on surfaces and the water flows off immediately and leaves no streaks behind. I now clean the bathroom much less often, thanks to this product.

  5. Lyudmila

    Sanitary ware gel from expel. For me the best remedy. Because there are no strong caustic components in the composition, therefore there is no pungent smell. Plus, it is safe for surfaces. Convenient spray form.

  6. Yana

    I like to use Expel spray to clean my bathroom. I spray it if I suddenly see dirt and then wipe it with a sponge. All dirt is always washed off quickly and no streaks remain. Very cool tool, I recommend it!

  7. Marika

    I use the above-mentioned Expel in the form of a spray and universal gel for all surfaces in the bathroom. Both products have no pungent odor and are one hundred percent satisfactory in terms of cleaning quality. There are no streaks or plaque residue left.
