Horizontal

Horizontal structures consist of transverse lamella elements assembled into a single system using threads or fishing lines. This is the most popular variety, which is most often found on plastic windows of office buildings. You can hang it in your apartment.

The material of the lamellas of such designs is different. The most common elements are made of aluminum or plastic, but there are also fabric options. Horizontal models differ in the length of the overall canvas, shade, and width of the lamellas.

Horizontal structures are mounted on a plastic frame, between two doors, on the ceiling or on the wall. To hang them, use special brackets or ordinary screws. Some models can be attached using double-sided tape.

It is important to hang the sheets on each double-glazed window individually. If you curtain a plastic window opening completely, you will not be able to open the sashes when the slats are lowered.

Vertical

Vertical blinds are assembled from longitudinally located lamella strips, interconnected by a system of threads or fishing lines, attached to a base resembling a cornice for ordinary fabric curtains. Such designs look more original than horizontal ones and fit organically into different types of interiors.

Length curtains determined by the length of the lamellas. Vertical products can only cover the window opening or reach the floor.

Due to their large dimensions, vertical blinds are rarely hung individually on each sash. They are usually attached to the wall or ceiling above a plastic window.

Roller blinds

If the slats of classic blinds can be pulled up or simply turned so that they let in light, in roller blinds the canvas is wound onto the shaft, completely exposing the glass. This option looks more appropriate in classic interiors than metal and plastic structures.

Cassette window blinds

Cassette window blinds are another common option. Their difference from other varieties lies in the presence of a box into which all the elements are collected when the curtains are opened. The slats are controlled using a chain.

This option is easiest to hang on plastic windows. To do this, you need to place each box on the profile of its own window sash.

Designs and installation methods

Any blinds include a cornice (a plastic or metal rectangular profile in which the mechanism is hidden), slats, and a control element (in the form of a plastic chain or thread). Designs often also have a control rod, which, when rotated, changes the angle of inclination of the lamellas and the degree of “transparency” of the window.

Typically, such curtains come with fastenings that allow you to quickly and easily assemble the blinds. However, some manufacturers produce products without such an addition. In addition, the basic configuration is not suitable for all installation methods.

To install blinds on plastic windows with your own hands, you will need a number of tools:

If you plan to install it in a window opening, no matter what kind of blinds are attached, it is important to measure the parameters of the window so that the curtains hang freely and do not catch the window sill with the bottom edge.

To hang on the frame of a plastic window, measure the glass units horizontally. Then measure the height and subtract 2 cm from it.

On the ceiling or wall

To attach blinds to a wall or ceiling, you need to decide in advance on the length of the curtains (they can end at the level of the window sill, under it, or reach the floor), and note at what level they will end.

Next, mark the area where you plan to hang the cornice. Now you can measure the distance from the top mark to the bottom. This is the required curtain length.

To hang a curtain on the wall and ceiling, the width of the curtain fabric must exceed the width of the window opening by at least 50 mm on the sides. However, this parameter may be larger.

If the window sill is wide enough so that the curtain hanging at the level of its edge does not interfere with the opening of the sashes, then the structure can be hung directly on the wall. If the plastic window is flush with the wall, then the blinds will have to be hung on additional fasteners that increase this distance. Otherwise, the curtain will prevent the windows from opening and impair the ventilation of the space.

On the doors

This installation requires careful measurements. In this case, you will have to measure each sash separately, in addition, you will need preliminary adjustment of plastic windows.

First measure the width and height of the glass. Add 50 mm to the length (25 mm at the bottom and top). Add 30 mm to the width (15 mm on each side). This margin will be enough so that the slats completely cover the glass, but do not interfere with the opening of the plastic window.

If the handle is located too close to the glass, then no increase in width is made.

How to install horizontal blinds on plastic windows on the frame

Typically, small self-tapping screws are used to hang the cornice on the frame. Fastenings for blinds on plastic windows are included in the kit.

Many people are afraid to attach horizontal blinds to the frame because of the need to drill holes. However, when installed correctly, self-tapping screws in the profile do not impair the thermal insulation and other properties of plastic windows. The glass unit can only be damaged if the hole was drilled at an insufficient distance from the bead.

Installation step by step

Installing blinds on a plastic window frame is easy to do without the help of a specialist. The main thing is to follow the step-by-step instructions and take accurate measurements.

How to hang blinds on plastic windows with your own hands:

1. The fasteners are hung on the curtain rod so that they do not interfere with the movement of the mechanism inside the box.
2. The cornice is applied to the frame, leveling it. It is important that on the left and right the blinds extend onto the frame beyond the glass unit at an equal distance. This will make the window look neater.
3. The areas on which you plan to hang the fasteners are marked on the frame. Mark all future holes with a pencil. It is important that during marking work the cornice does not warp.
4. To prevent the plastic from cracking, holes are carefully drilled in the frame. The diameter of the drill should be slightly smaller than the diameter of the screws. The kit usually comes with screws with a diameter of 3 mm, so take a 2-2.5 mm drill. You can also use special metal screws. In this case, there is no need to pre-drill holes.
5. The brackets are attached with self-tapping screws, screwing the fasteners into the previously made holes.
6. The cornice is inserted into the brackets, pressing until it clicks.
7. The ends of the structure are decorated with plugs, if they are included in the kit.

We install the lower clamps

The assembled blinds must be inserted into the lower clamp.This element is located on the bottom of the sash and holds the curtain, preventing it from moving due to wind and drafts. To install this item:

1. The lower edge of the blinds is pulled down slightly. On the lower profile (frame) of the sash, a mark is made at the place where the latch will be attached. It is important to retreat at least 1 cm from the edge of the glass unit.
2. Drill holes according to the markings.
3. The fasteners are attached using self-tapping screws.
4. The lower edge of the blinds is inserted into the clamp attached to the frame of the plastic window.

Installation of vertical blinds

Installing blinds with vertical slats is not much different from working with horizontal structures. The main feature is that all elements must be hung on the cornice after its installation.

There should be a distance of at least 1-2 cm between the lower edge of the vertical blinds and the horizontal surface (floor, window sill). This will allow the structure not to cling to the window sill or floor.

Installation of blinds using drilling

If you hang the blinds on a plastic window with special fasteners, having pre-drilled the holes, you don’t have to worry about the structure falling off at the most inopportune moment. This installation method is considered the most reliable.

How to attach blinds:

1. First they make the markings. To do this, the cornice is pressed against the area where it is planned to be hung and leveled. Points for future holes are marked in the center of the cornice, as well as along the edges, 0.5 cm from the ends to the center.
2. For fasteners, holes are made with a drill whose diameter is 0.5-1 mm smaller than the diameter of the self-tapping screw.
3. The brackets are attached using self-tapping screws. The cornice is inserted and fixed into them.The fastenings are covered with special decorative overlays (usually included in the kit).
4. After the cornice hangs in place, the slats are assembled. They are attached to the curtain rod in the order in which the manufacturer put them in the box (this is especially true if the curtain has a pattern). It is also necessary to wind the runners and attach the chain.

Installation of blinds without drilling

Blinds can be easily installed on plastic windows without drilling holes. To do this, use double-sided tape or special fasteners. The second option is only suitable for hanging curtains on opening sashes of a plastic window.

For vertical blinds, the tape method is more suitable. However, this method is less reliable compared to fastening with screws.

Installation instructions without drilling

If you don’t want to hang the blinds using penetrating fasteners, you can attach them to the plastic window using tape, adhesive-sealant or clamps. These methods do not require drilling into the wall or windows.

Installing blinds without drilling is easier than using self-tapping screws. In this case, you don’t have to be afraid of damaging the window by accidentally getting into a double-glazed window or breaking off a piece of the wall. However, such fastenings are less reliable.

For clamps

Fastening blinds using clips is only possible on windows that open. Such fasteners are not screwed in with self-tapping screws, but are simply hung and snapped onto the sashes.

How to hang blinds with clips:

1. Clips are placed on the cornice, assembled according to the instructions for the blinds. It is important that the fasteners do not impede the operation of the mechanism and do not touch the moving elements. The work is checked immediately after the clamps are put on.
2. The cornice with clamps is applied to the sash.Check that the canvas in this position does not touch the moving elements of the plastic window or touch the window sill (the distance between the bottom edge and the window sill should be at least 1-2 cm).
3. Using a simple pencil, make marks in the places to which the clamps will be attached.
4. The clips are removed from the cornice and snapped onto the sashes in the areas where the marks are placed.
5. Now you can hang the curtain rod with the canvas on the clamps.

On tape

Without using penetrating command blinds, you can attach them to a plastic window using double-sided tape. It is important to choose high-quality material that is wide enough so that the curtain is securely attached.

This way it is easy to hang blinds on a wall, ceiling or frame. The main thing is to choose adhesive tape of the appropriate width and follow the step-by-step instructions:

1. The blinds, assembled according to the instructions, are applied to the window. The cornice must be located in the area where it is planned to be hung. The structure is leveled.
2. Marks are made at the level of the extreme points of the cornice. A straight line is drawn between them.
3. The fixation site is degreased. Alcohol, gasoline or other solvent is used as a degreaser. Before use, you should test the effect of the solvent on an inconspicuously small area.
4. Double-sided tape is glued to the cornice. Remove the protective film from the top side.
5. Now you need to glue the blinds to the plastic window strictly along the marking line. The cornice is pressed tightly so that it is well fixed.

Installation of window blind mounts on the wall

Installing blinds on a wall is no more difficult than hanging them on a window frame. For this method, you usually choose a curtain size so that the sides extend beyond the window.The length may be different - the installation technology does not change depending on this parameter.

Step-by-step instructions for installing blinds on the wall above a plastic window:

1. Assembling the curtain. Remove the top cover from the cornice.
2. The cornice is applied to the wall above the window (the height at which the cornice will be located can be any). Markings are made on the wall in the places where the fasteners will be installed. It is convenient to make markings with a pencil through the holes in the cornice.
3. Holes are drilled at the marked points.
4. The cornice is screwed directly to the wall with screws or the brackets are first attached and then the cornice is inserted into them. If the window is flush with the wall, then for ease of opening the sashes, be sure to hang brackets.
5. The cornice is covered with a top cover.

We hang aluminum curtains and blinds on sliding windows

The sliding window sashes do not open, but are moved to the side like a wardrobe. Therefore, in this case, hanging curtains on each sash separately or on the window frame will not work.

To hang a cornice on the ceiling, step 2-4 cm away from the wall with the window. Vertical blinds are best suited in this situation.

How to install inter-frame blinds

Interframe blinds are installed between two frames of one window. With this method of installing the slats, the curtains retain the ability to rotate in different directions, regulating the amount of light entering the room.At the same time, they are located between two double-glazed windows, which protect them from dust and dirt and allow them to remain clean for a long time.

Step-by-step instructions on how to attach inter-frame blinds:

1. The window frame is unscrewed. Open the top door.
2. The blinds are applied to the inner sash and the size matches are checked.
3. On the outer (open) flap, holes are made for the cord and the output of the flexible control handle. They should be positioned vertically on top of each other.
4. The brackets are inserted into the calipers. The flexible lead is brought out through the upper hole, and the cord is threaded through the lower one so that it passes through the spring.
5. Inter-frame blinds are mounted on the inner leaf using special inter-frame brackets (included in the kit).
6. An adapter must be hung on the window frame.
7. The lamella control handle is mounted to the flexible water using the included plastic cap.
8. A cord retainer is attached to the frame.
9. All that remains is to assemble the frame.

How to hang on the balcony

Blinds, which can be installed in different ways, are also hung on plastic balcony windows. The installation technology is no different from installation on windows inside an apartment. They can be hung on the ceiling, wall or directly on the window frame.

If the windows on the balcony are sliding, then usually there is no place to mount the blinds on the wall above them. In this case, the cornice is attached to the ceiling, not forgetting to retreat 2-5 cm from the wall.

Adjusting the size of blinds

In order for the blinds to look good and not interfere with the opening of the shutters, it is important that their dimensions match the parameters of the plastic window. Therefore, measurements are taken before purchasing. If a mistake was made and the curtains do not fit the window, then in most cases, you can adjust the size yourself by simply cutting off the excess parts.

Cutting horizontal blinds to width and height

Not all options allow you to shorten the length of horizontal blinds yourself. To make sure that such manipulations are possible, you should read the manufacturer’s recommendations regarding sizing. Usually it is enough to remove excess lamellas and shorten the threads by moving the plastic stops and the last element to the end of the shortened structure.

It is possible to reduce the width of the blinds yourself. For this:

1. The plug and protective covers are removed. The control mechanism is moved to the side.
2. Excess parts are cut off with metal scissors. It is better to do this symmetrically on both sides.
3. The cut edges are treated with sandpaper, removing all irregularities.
4. The structure is being assembled.

Cutting vertical blinds to height and width

Vertical blinds for plastic windows are also easy to reduce in width, but difficult to shorten in length. After all, the lower edges of the lamellas require special processing; weights are suspended from them. Therefore, you will have to disassemble the structure, shorten each element separately, and rearrange the weights.

To reduce the width of a structure:

1. The blinds are being taken apart. Excess slats are removed.
2. The cornice is cut with a hacksaw. The edge is sanded, removing all irregularities.
3. Excess runners are removed, and debris clogged inside is cleaned out.
4. The structure is being assembled.

Cutting roller blinds to width and height

Roller blinds for plastic windows can be easily shortened both in length and width. The list describes the length-shortening process:

1. Roller blinds should be hung on the window with the canvas completely straightened.
2. Marks are made on the canvas at the height at which cutting is intended.
3. The curtains are removed from the plastic window and laid out on a horizontal surface.The weight material is removed from the pocket.
4. From the mark, move down 4-5 cm (this is the allowance for the new pocket). If the length is not enough, you can rip and straighten the pocket.
5. The excess is cut off.
6. Sew a new pocket. A weighting agent is inserted into it.

Shortening roller blinds in width is a little more difficult. For this:
