Premiere 2021: series of Apollo Transformer System convectors from Ballu

Telling about a new product from Ballu is not the easiest task, but it is incredibly interesting.This is a unique model of a new generation household heater, developed on the basis of innovative technology. It combines not only the latest heating technologies, but also a unique design. Let's look at the design first.

Basically, electric convectors from manufacturers are of the same type and standardized in appearance (essentially, steel boxes). It is difficult to find features and elements in them that distinguish them from others. And this is easy to explain - convectors have always been considered only as functional units for heating rooms.

Looking at Ballu Apollo, you can immediately notice that it stands out sharply from the products of other manufacturers. What associations arise when considering his appearance? And here the title of this series acts as a hint. An object appears before our eyes, as if it had flown into our home from a space journey. It becomes clear that when developing a heating device, the designers were inspired by the theme of space and the universe.

The design of the compact, unusually shaped body, the specially built-in system and the chassis, like a landing module, evoke memories of alien ships.

The texture and color scheme also have their own personality. In addition to the shining white color of the case, there is also a deep black version. There is also an option when the metal case is covered with low-wear, fire-resistant textiles in lunar or black color.

Thanks to this design, the convector was nominated in the field of industrial design at the A’Design Awards 2021.

Now let’s see how the technological content of the Ballu heating device corresponds to the “galactic” design.

The heating module is equipped with a full-size 4D flow outlet grille for uniform distribution of the convective flow of warm air. Heated air exits the device in a wide stream, both frontally and vertically.

A special heating element of the latest model – Hedgehog – is installed inside the case. Today this is the highest stage of evolution of heating elements in heating devices. Hedgehog has already replaced its patriarchal predecessors: a needle heater (stitch) and a tubular heating element.

The Hedgehog is a converted one-piece device with triangular elements that expand the heat distribution area without increasing the size of the heating element and housing. This means that models of this brand with high rated powers of 2 and 2.5 kW are 20% much more compact than other devices of the same power. De facto, there is nothing to burn out in the Hedgehog heating element, so its service life is about a quarter of a century.

The Hedgehog heating element has a larger heat dissipation area and smaller dimensions for the rated power.

The Apollo convector uses special Transformer System technology. Transformer means that the convector is assembled as a constructor by the user himself, who independently selects one of three types of control unit, installation method (wall-mounted or floor-mounted) and the need for an Internet connection (WIFI). This Transformer System technology is like a flexible car configuration, since the user himself determines which convector control he prefers.

And now a few words about control modules.This heating device requires the presence of two modules - mechanical and electronic, which control the operation of the heating device according to the classical algorithm. In mechanics, the required temperature can be set using a bellows. regulator, and in electronic ones - with touch buttons. The electronic control unit allows you to program the heating device’s operating schedule by day; it also has a function for blocking the “parental control” buttons and a timer for turning off.

Transformer System technology is a choice of control unit option: mechanical, electronic or digital Inverter.

When the heater is equipped with a digital Inverter inverter control unit, its operating principle changes from classic on/off to rational, or rather energy-efficient. With this control, the power of the heater automatically changes smoothly depending on the difference between the current and set temperature.

Thanks to this control principle, it is possible to achieve high energy efficiency compared to convectors from any manufacturer operating on the ON/OFF principle. An inverter device saves more than half as a percentage.

When using inverter control in combination with the unique design of Ballu Apollo, new opportunities open up for building a complete heating system for a cottage and integrating electric convectors into a smart home system.
