Flooring and quartz vinyl tiles

Floor coverings today are increasingly being given priority over other finishing materials. The reason is that floors are subject to various loads more than other surfaces. Plus, a beautiful floor is always nice.Therefore, the modern market offers a huge range of floor finishing materials. Every year new offers appear, which, according to manufacturers, are better than the previous ones. For example, quartz vinyl tiles.

Alternative to laminate

In fact, quartz vinyl tiles are very similar in appearance to laminate. But this is a completely different flooring material, which differs from laminate both in composition and characteristics.

Laminate – this is a multi-layer coating, which includes (from top to bottom):

  • thin protective film;
  • decorative layer of durable paper;
  • base – MDF board;
  • protective covering.

There may be more layers.

Quartz vinyl tiles consist of:

  • protective film made of polyurethane;
  • a wear-resistant layer that protects the coating from point loads (heels, furniture legs);
  • base - a plate of polyvinyl chloride, to which quartz sand is added;
  • substrate.

It is the absence of MDF board, as a material made from wood, that makes the tile moisture resistant. And this is a big advantage. And although laminate manufacturers today offer moisture-resistant versions of this material, it cannot compare in this indicator with quartz vinyl coating. In this regard, the tiles are one hundred percent moisture resistant. Therefore, it can be safely installed in any damp areas.

And other benefits:

  • the tiles are not afraid of changes in humidity and temperature;
  • it can be washed with any household detergents;
  • drinks, paints and other dyes spilled on the surface do not leave traces;
  • the material is not flammable;
  • scratches on the surface are not about quartz vinyl;
  • it is a good sound insulator, which is an important factor for city apartments;
  • a heavy object falling on the tile will not be able to cause any significant damage to it;
  • the widest choice in terms of surface decor;
  • can be installed on a “warm floor” heating system;
  • has antistatic, antifungal and anti-slip properties.

Another big plus is the ability to install on substrates whose surfaces have cracks, small defects and even unevenness. The guaranteed service life is 20 years.

The only thing where laminate wins is in price. It's three times cheaper.

This is useful! Engineered board or laminate: what is better to choose for floor construction.
